Firework night (or somewhere near it) is a good time to clear out accumulated wood, and some of the woody offcuts. We worry about global warming, but it is very warming and communal at the end of a November workday to gather around the bonfire.

Depending on the season, and how adventurous members are feeling, a wide variety of soups, stews, homemade bread and fruit crumbles find their way to site on workdays. Homemade elderflower champagne, and beer have occasionally made an appearance, but more usually tea is brewed on a stormkettle, and drunk in abundance. A stormkettle uses just a few twigs and newspaper in the centre to boil a thin layer of water around the outside of the kettle.
